Limestone, Phosphate, Gypsum, Scoria, Quartz sand, Tar and clay are the main minerals exploited on a commercial scale in Syria. The government of Syria retains ownership. Since the year 2001, the government has been encouraging foreign investment in Syria’s mining industry.
